George O. Barr staff members love theme days! This is our Thanksgiving family photo, with all of your favorite holiday meal items on our shirts.

Good afternoon,
In the event that inclement weather necessitates the closing of school, we will use a traditional snow day. If possible, I will announce the closing the night before via email, text, Facebook, and the district website. Local radio stations will also be notified.
While we do not anticipate using an E-learning Day in the future, we want maintain that option in an emergency. In order to use an E-learning Day, the district is required to notify parents of the plan and post the plan to the website. The E-learning Plan is located at https://www.silvisrockets.com/documents/district/boe-meetings-and-required-postings/required-postings/484513.
If you have any questions regarding our plans, please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Dr. VandeWiele
Reminder that elementary students will be going outside for recess when the "feels like" temperature is 15 degrees and above (25 degrees for PreK). Students must have snowboots, snowpants, gloves, hat, and coat to play in snow. Bundle up your children as winter weather is here.
Good afternoon,
We hope all of our families enjoyed the Thanksgiving holiday. As a reminder, school resumes tomorrow. We look forward to seeing everyone bright and early in the morning.

Good morning,
United Township High School is hosting a job fair on Monday, November 20th from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. If you are interested in learning about our open positions, please be sure to stop by.
Dr. VandeWiele

UTHS is hosting a job fair for all partner districts, including Silvis. We are currently interviewing for substitute teachers, a bus driver, and paraprofessional at George O. Barr Elementary. Please stop by between 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm, if you are interested in learning more.

Students at George O. Barr are learning about and celebrating Veteran's Day today. Major Wilson spoke to the student council members this morning. In our hallways, we are honoring our friends and family who are/have served. Thank you Veterans for your service!

Trunk or Treat is about to begin! Join us between 5:30 and 7:30 at NEJH.

Just a reminder that bus drop off/pick up is on the west side of the school, near the front office with the awning and gold bell. Car riders drop off/pick up is on the east side of the building, near the playground, off of 14th St. PreK parents need to use the alley only.
Good afternoon. We have to combine bus routes for the afternoon routes today. This may result in your child being dropped off at a later time. We apologize for the inconvenience.
On Tuesday, October 10th, we will be combining bus routes again. This will result in later pick-up and drop-off times for both George O. Barr and Northeast students. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Parents,
The deadline to order yearbooks is 2/2/2024, rather than 2/2/2023. Even though the date is wrong, the QR code on the preceding message is correct and will take you to the site. Type in Silvis School District to locate our district.
Thank you!
Dr. VandeWiele
Parents,
Yearbooks may now be ordered online! Please scan the QR Code or go to yearbook forever.com. The deadline to order is 2/2/2023.

Let's go! Great night for some football.

On Friday, September 29, we will be combining bus routes again. This will result in later pick-up and drop off times for both George O. Barr and Northeast. We will then be on Fall Break until October 10th.
UTHS Homecoming Parade. Thank you for including the Silvis Partner School District. Go Panthers!

Good evening,
As a reminder, tomorrow is a School Improvement Day. GOB dismisses at 10:50 and NEJH dismisses at 11:30. Silvis teachers are walking in the UTHS Homecoming Parade starting at 2:00 pm. We hope to see our families and students at the parade.
Dr. VandeWiele
Good afternoon families. We will be combining routes this Thursday and Friday due to a bus driver shortage. All students who ride the buses may experience a longer wait at the bus stop in the morning and a later drop off in the afternoon. We apologize for the change in routine.
On Monday, September 11, 2023, the orange route bus will be 20-25 minutes later picking up Northeast students. These students will not be counted as tardy. The afternoon bus time will not change. Again, this is for the junior high orange route students.
Please join us! A Ribbon Cutting Ceremony/Open House is scheduled for September 11, 2023, at 5:30 pm. Please join us as we celebrate the new building addition/remodel at GOB. Parents who attend will have an opportunity to win 4 front row seats at the holiday concert.
