We’re excited to roll out a new tool that will simplify how we communicate with you. Rooms, built right into our Silvis School District app and website, offers secure and safe two-way messaging.
This addition allows Silvis School District to bring the community closer together. From messages to educators, to events, to lunch menus, and more - everything can now live in one place.
Why Rooms?
• One place for every message. No more juggling multiple communication apps, flipping between inboxes, or remembering different logins.
• Text notifications. You’ll get notified automatically of new messages even if you haven’t downloaded our district app.
• Safe and secure. Built-in moderation and other safety tools allow us to ensure safety of all communications, at all times.
What to Expect:
• Rooms will become our primary method for all communication between staff, coaches, families, and teachers.
• Rooms will be live and ready for messaging with educators on August 3, 2026.
We’re excited to bring our communication into one clear, connected experience for you.

It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of Kirsten Kearns on Friday, June 5th, in Nashville, Tennessee.
Kirsten served as a George O. Barr Elementary teacher from 2012 through 2026. As a dedicated and cherished teacher, she touched countless lives with her warmth, kindness, and unwavering commitment to her students. Our hearts go out to her family, her loved ones, and the many students and colleagues who are grieving this profound loss.
This loss feels especially heavy as our community continues to heal from the passing of Kim Bultynck, less than a year ago. Losing two beloved members of our Silvis family in less than a year is heartbreaking. Now, more than ever, it is vital that we lean on and lift up one another as we navigate this shared grief.
For those who wish to pay their respects and celebrate Kirsten's life, the details are as follows:
Visitation: Tuesday, June 16, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Esterdahl Mortuary and Crematory, Ltd. (Moline, IL)
Funeral Services: Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., at River City Church (2305 7th Ave., Moline, IL)
Thank you for your continued kindness, compassion, and support for one another as we honor Kirsten's memory.
With deepest sympathy,
Dr. Terri VandeWiele and the Silvis Administrative Team

We are gathering information on your communication preferences, student attendance, and ideas for future family events. Thank you in advance for sharing your thoughts.
