Silvis School District Curriculum and Instruction
Over the past three years, the Curriculum Committee has researched and recommended curriculum changes to the Board of Education. As a result, the teachers implemented a new English Language Arts curriculum in grades 3-8 during the 2017-2018 school year. This rigorous curriculum, developed by Expeditionary Learning, aligns with the Common Core Standards, which are also the Illinois Learning Standards. In the 2018-2019 school year, a new math curriculum called Go Math is being implemented in grades K-8. The Board of Education, administration, faculty, and staff understand the importance of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) education so the district offers instruction in computers, music, band, engineering, and art. Opportunities to participate in athletics and various clubs are also available to students.
